Summer House is one of Bravo's best reality shows, but according to the cast and crew, there are some areas that were scripted and not what they seem.
With season 2 of Winter House premiering October 13, 2022, Bravo fans are excited to see a mix of their favorite Summer House and Southern Charm Bravolebrities on one screen. Similarly, Bravo announced they filmed season 7 of Summer House in the summer of 2022 to gear up for a summer 2023 release date.
It's easy to get excited about all the new Bravo content but as is the case with most reality TV shows, fans don't know what to believe and what to ignore. While it's been said that Summer House is one of the more real reality shows on Bravo, there have also been some forced, scripted, or fake moments in the series that have been confirmed by both the cast and crew.
Luke Said Producers "Meddled" In His Season 4 Relationship With Hannah
Luke Gulbranson has been linked to a few women throughout his time on Summer House, but one of his more dramatic relationships and friendships was with Hannah Berner in season 4. Season 4 had some of the more drama-filled quotes on Summer House because of his loose relationship with Hannah.
It appeared that the potential couple was one-sided at times (with Hannah liking Luke more than the other way around), which was why fans were surprised when Luke invited Hannah to his family's home after the summer. However, according to Metro, Luke said, "I was produced and asked to ask [Hannah] to go to Minnesota. I should have never asked you that. I should have said no." Fans and even Andy Cohen denied that he was "produced" but his story does track since the two never got serious after that season.
Most Restaurant Scenes Are Staged To An Extent
Reality shows like Summer House do so well on Bravo because fans love the dynamic of a big group of friends who had known each other for years. Their long friendships bring on dark arguments and drunken moments, especially at dinner.
Some of the more dramatic moments in Summer House happen around a dinner table. But going out to eat with that size of a cast isn't always easy in Montauk. Producers of the show told Bravo that going out to eat is the "biggest challenge" because they're not supposed to ruin the other patrons' dining experiences. Fame 10 added that some restaurants refused to host the cast because they were too worried that it would turn into a scene from "Jersey Shore."
Craig Admitted Production Didn't Show His & Paige's Happy Times In Season 6
In season 1 of Winter House, Summer House's Paige DeSorbo and Southern Charm's Craig Conover became close friends. They were close enough that when they both found themselves single at the end of shooting, they started dating — creating the ultimate Bravo couple!
This Winter House couple is still very much an item, with both making appearances on each other's respective shows. In season 6, Craig wasn't shown in the best light — especially when it came to his rendezvous with his ex-girlfriend Naomie Olindo and Kristen Cavallari. On the podcast Reality Life with Kate Casey, Craig said production didn't show the "accurate story." "When I discovered what direction that they were going in, I was pretty upset."
Cristina Wasn't Fired
In season 1, Cristina Gibson was a part of the Summer House cast because she was friends with Everette Weston, and later, Lindsay Hubbard.
Although Cristina and Lindsay were once friends, an argument between them about a fake storyline blew up on camera. Apparently, it was noted that Cristina was fired from her position, which was why she had the ability to stay at the summer house. But according to Reality Tea, Cristina actually quit her job to be able to film Summer House — she wasn't fired. This twist in the story didn't come out until after the series aired.
Alex Was Physically Present In Season 6 But Was Edited Out
Summer House fans questioned why Alex Wach was added to the cast in season 6. Since the show was already a standout with a group of friends who all knew each other, it was an odd choice to add a new face to the tight-knit group.
On many occasions, Alex wasn't at a party or group dinner, which seemed odd on Summer House. Even odder was when the cast would explain his absence on camera. But it's been revealed by Kyle Cooke that Alex was actually there (and can be seen in photos or in the background), but producers edited him out because there were too many other storylines that were more entertaining than his. With season 7 approaching, Alex won't be returning. He wasn't the best choice for a Summer House castmate since the cast should remain as is.
Lindsay & Everett Were Worse Than What Was Shown
Lindsay and Everett had a complicated, on-and-off relationship that had its highs and lows. They entered the house as a couple but left as friends multiple times. Their relationship was so dramatic that it was hard for the other house castmates not to get involved, but at least they had some good times.
Funny enough, former castmate Stephen McGee shared with Betches that producers edited the couple in a way that made them appear better than they actually were. Fame 10 wrote, "They were portrayed a little better on the show than what the other cast members saw in the house." McGee went on to say, "Lindsay and Everett definitely were fighting ALL the time, it was not like a private thing, it was to the point where the house was pretty over it."
Lauren Knew All About Carl Seeing Other Women
Carl Radke is one of Summer House's more popular cast members after being a part of the show for so long. Among all the current and former house castmates, Carl has done the most work on himself and has transformed the most.
Now sober and engaged to fellow castmate Lindsay Hubbard, Carl's in a different place than in his early seasons. However, there was one early storyline that wound up being fake. In an interview with Reality Life with Kate Casey, Stephen McGee said that Carl's former partner Lauren Wirkus knew Carl was seeing other people but acted like she didn't when being filmed. One example was when Lauren knew Carl took another woman as a wedding day but acted like she had no idea. McGee said, "[Lauren] knows Carl is talking to other girls and seeing other girls. She just- I don’t know- if she just turned a blind eye to it on purpose or what.”
They're Not Actually Renting The House
In season 1, it was said that the group rented the Montauk house every weekend in the summer and went back to New York City during the week for work.
And while it's been suspected in recent seasons, the notion of "How are they paying for this home near the Hamptons?" was a popular question. As it turned out, Reality Titbit mentioned that Stephen McGee confirmed the cast did not pay for the home they vacationed in — Bravo did. "Even though the house is big and you see all of our rooms, there’s rooms that were used for storage, production, and cameras. We weren’t paying extra for those spaces to give them room to produce the show," McGee said. The amazing home the friends live in is one of the reasons why Summer House is one of the best Bravo reality shows.
