Mrs. Lumley served as the Conservative MP for Redditch from 2010 to 2017, when she resigned.

She is regarded as a “charismatic and strong woman,” the constituency’s second female MP since the seat was founded in 1997.

Penny Mordaunt, Leader of the House of Commons, was emotionally overcome as she told MPs they had lost a “larger-than-life character.”

Ms. Mordaunt stated that her colleague had previously served on the Finance Committee, the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, and the Transport Select Committee and worked as a parliamentary private secretary in the Department of Health.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean paid homage to her predecessor, saying, “In her time as the Member of Parliament for Redditch, Karen demonstrated tonnes of compassion and a genuine desire to improve people’s lives.”

Former Chancellor Sajid Javid, MP for Bromsgrove, said Mrs. Lumley was “a fantastic colleague and friend as a neighboring MP – and truly loved representing her constituents.”

Mrs. Lumley ran unsuccessfully for the Redditch constituency before winning it in the 2010 general election, defeating former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
