Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (born on August 8, 1998) in Pickering, Canada. He is a Canadian singer and songwriter.

His mother, Karen Mendes, is from England, is a real estate agent, and his father, Manuel Mendes, is from Algarve, Portugal. His father is a businessperson who sells bar and restaurant supplies in Toronto. Mendes has a younger sister named Aaliyah. He grew up in a religious family.

Mendes graduated from Pine Ridge Secondary School. He loves sports such as ice hockey and soccer. But later, he joined his high school glee club and practiced his acting lessons. He also gave auditioned for Disney Channel in Toronto to resume his acting career.

Career

He started his career in 2013, by posting song covers on the application Vine. The next year, he was noticed by an artist manager Andrew Gertler, and Ziggy Chareton on the internet. This led Mendes to sign a contract with the record label.

In 2014, he made his first debut album “Shawn Mendes EP”, supported by his debut studio album Handwritten in 2015. It appeared at number one on the US Billboard 200. Before the age of 18, Mendes became one of five artists ever to premiere at number one.

The solo “Stitches” appeared at number one in the UK and the top 10 in the US and in his native Canada.

In 2016, he released his second studio album, Illuminate, which also appeared at number one in the US and hit the top 10 in many countries, with its singles “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”.

The lead single “In My Blood” supported his self-titled third studio album (2018). It appeared at number one in the US, which made Mendes the third-youngest artist.

In 2019, he released the hit singles “If I Can’t Have You” and “Señorita”, also debuted as number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2020, he released his fourth studio album, Wonder, which made Mendes the youngest male artist ever to top the Billboard 200.

Mendes has won several awards, such as 13 SOCAN awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, eight Juno Awards, two American Music Awards and more. He also received three nominations for a Grammy Award and one nomination for a Brit Award.

Time magazine named Mendes as one of the 100 most influential people in the world on their annual list in 2018.
