What Happend To Chiara Ferragni?
On 15 December, Italy’s Antitrust Authority (AGCM) announced that Chiara Ferragni and her associated companies must pay 1.075 million euros ($1.18 million) as a fine.
The fine was imposed due to misleading customers about charity donations associated with the sales of a Christmas cake.
In addition, Balocco, an Italian cake manufacturer, was fined 420,000 euros by AGCM.
The fines resulted from an investigation initiated by the regulator in June, concerning a Ferragni-branded Balocco pandoro – a festive dessert sold in Italy last year.
The price of this special pandoro was over 9 euros each, which was significantly higher than the regular Balocco pandoro priced under 4 euros.

According to AGCM, the advertising and inflated pricing led consumers to believe that their purchase of the cake would directly contribute to a charity for bone cancer research at a hospital in Turin and that Ferragni was personally making donations.
However, Balocco had already made a one-time donation of 50,000 euros to the hospital months before the launch of the Ferragni pandoro.
Therefore, the product sales did not impact the charity donations, as stated by the regulator.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the companies related to Ferragni, despite receiving more than 1 million euros for the branding initiative and associated promotional activities, did not contribute any money to the Turin hospital.
Ferragni, boasting nearly 30 million followers on Instagram, is one of the world’s most influential fashion figures.
In response to the controversy, she stated on social media that her partnership with Balocco was a business deal conducted in good faith, with the hospital donation made by the cake maker being a crucial part of the agreement.
Chiara Ferragni Apoligized After Pandoro Balocco Scandal
Chiara Ferragni acknowledged a “communications error” on 18 December and pledged to donate 1 million euros ($1.1 million) to a children’s hospital.
The incident has drawn considerable negative attention towards Ferragni, who boasts nearly 30 million followers on Instagram.
The criticism has been so widespread that even Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni voiced her concerns over the weekend.
In an Instagram video, Ferragni expressed her realization of the communications error, stating her mistake, made in good faith, was to intertwine a commercial activity with a charitable one.
Appearing remorseful and on the verge of tears, the 36-year-old influencer committed to donating 1 million euros to the Regina Margherita, a pediatric hospital in Turin that is at the heart of the controversy.
Despite this, Ferragni plans to contest the AGCM fine, deeming it “excessive and unfair.”
The model further stated that if she received a reduced fine, she would increase her donation by an amount equivalent to the discount.
